Welcome to the Parish of St Aidan’s, Mirfield

A Mass centre was opened at Battyeford in 1927. Twenty-eight years later in 1955 Fr Backhouse, the Parish Priest of St Paulinus, Dewsbury, purchased a former warehouse of the Co-operative Wholesale Society, which was converted into a church hall with nave and sanctuary under one roof. Mirfield was established as a separate parish in 1968. A new facade was added to the street front of the building in 1984 and various internal alterations were carried out at the same time.

Masses suspended and all Catholic churches closed across Britain

In compliance with government instructions as from 23rd March 2020, Bishop Marcus has, with sadness, asked that our church buildings be closed with immediate effect until further notice. Fr Patrick will continue to say Mass in private, praying particularly for the needs of the Parish and all affected by the situation we find ourselves in.
